FREEBIE: California Mission Reading Passage {Mission History}

Formats Included
  • PDF
12 pages

Thank you for your interest in this freebie. I hope it helps you in your classroom. This year in the classroom the focus has been to integrate more Reading Comprehension into our Social Studies time. I LOVE California History, and I love to share our history with my 4th graders.

In my classroom we usually read the passage together, then with partners they fill in the reading strategy grid to dissect the text. I
sneak into their partner discussions to help guide when needed. We then discuss our findings full class, citing examples and giving explanations. We wrap up the passage with the assessment, and glue the passage into our Social Studies notebooks.
As we wrap up our full unit, I pass out the think maps for groups to brainstorm information (looking at the big picture), and we take our unit assessment.
During the unit, the students are also asking questions about the time period and using research skills using the included page during our trips to the computer lab. I really love how these passages have transformed my Social Studies time to make it more meaningful.

I have many collections available if you are interested, in addition to other CA History Products.
