This sample packet uses a systematic way of teaching long vowels.

Only spend about five to ten minutes a day on this. It’s an intensive phonics intervention packet that will help beginning readers or poor readers in need of training. Pictures are purposely left out so students can focus on the letter sounds.

Students should know more or less the letter names, the sounds the letters stand for at this point and as well as be familiar with the blend sounds.

This packet teaches how to isolate the long vowel sounds. How to combine these sounds with other sounds to make words and how to read these words in simple sentences.

This packet is design to be used in a binder, just insert into a transparent sheet, and print-n-go!
Use dry eraser markers for easy clean up.

This activity is aligned with First & Second Grade Common Core State Standards.

RF.1.2.A Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in spoken single-syllable words.
RF.1.3.C. Know final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds.
RF.2.3.A. Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words.
RF.2.3.C. Decode regularly spelled two-syllable words with long vowels.
