This activity is a fun warm up to help children work on impulse control and flexibility. I made visuals for the night/day activity from Brain Rules as well as created a summer/winter version. Page 3 includes a visual reminder to use to help students remember to “think” about their answer before blurting a word out, which helps improve their performance. This activity is based on Brain Rules
by John Medina and used to help with improving executive functioning. This is an activity to supplement the information from the book.
Directions: Print up slides 4 and/or 5 and laminate for durability. Explain to the student when you show them the “sun”, they need to say “night” or “evening”. When shown the “night” picture, they need to say “morning” or “day”. If the student is struggling with accurately answering, you can use the visual poster and sing or say “Think about the answer, don’t tell me”.
Do the same thing with the “winter” and “summer” cards. Make sure you laugh and have a fun time when the student messes up! This is a great warm up for the day!!
