The weather unit can be used along with any type of materials you already own. The informational text that students pull their facts from can be from textbooks, educational videos, short clips, magazines, or observation. This unit is flexible and can be molded to fit your needs.
The unit should take about 6 weeks to complete with each week being about a different type of weather. I tried to order them in a manner that goes from simple to more complex, but it can be arranged as you see fit.

Day 1: This day is all about reading information and learning about the weather of the week.
Day 2: Graphic Organizer. After you have done research you can start to fill out your graphic organizer. Model how to fill one out with the class. It has blank boxes so that students can also draw in them.
Day 3: Paragraph Outline. Student can now take their graphic organizer and start to fill out a paragraph outline. The graphic organizer is set up in a way that they can make full sentences out of their notes.
Day 4: Paragraph Writing. I supplied two different types of paragraphs. One has sentences starters and one does not. Do the one that works best for your class. Take the time to go over paragraph writing and its importance. Talk about how we create a topic sentence. Day 5: Share Out. This is time for the students to read their paragraphs with a buddy or to the class. Sharing and retelling is a huge part of this unit.
