These tabs are a perfect way to keep your literacy INBs organized!
My students constantly refer back to activities and anchor charts in their notebooks, so it’s nice to have a dedicated section for each subject to save precious learning time.
On my cover, I have shown all 44 reading and writing notebooks I put together for this year. Topics in my reading notebook: literature and informational. Topics in my writing notebook: grammar, word study (I do roots and affixes here), and writing. I also included a vocabulary tab since I know some teachers may find that helpful.
I have provided two options for your convenience:
4 of each tab on 1 page -- I used this option and printed the tabs on 6 different sheets of colored card stock, which I finds to hold up very well!
20 of each tab on 1 page -- This option would be better for you if you want to color code tabs by subject. Again, I suggest printing on colored card stock for longevity and durability!
How to Use:
After you choose and print your tabs, cut them out. I actually found it to take less time to just cut them by hand -- I was spending too much time trying to line up the tabs perfectly on my paper cutter.
Once you finish cutting (or as you are cutting), I HIGHLY suggest separating your tabs by subject to make your life easier. I found that by doing one subject’s tab at a time, I had a nice little assembly line of notebooks that moved quickly (especially when I had to count pages).
When you’re ready to add the tabs into your notebooks, simply fold in half and staple on the sides of the appropriate notebook pages (you can see my examples on the cover).
