I hope you and your students enjoy this freebie!
I've found that "flip-books" truly help students with their writing. The format lessens anxiety of staring at a blank piece of paper, the interactive layout appeals to students, and it's a great way to freshen up a writing assignment! Accompanied with a directed drawing or craft, these also make a wonderful bulletin board display to show off student writing!
While there are many ways to assemble “flip-books” (some more efficient than others!) here is a quick rundown of what works for me.
→ Step 1: Print each page in order. Jazz it up with varied colored paper or simply print on white copy paper.
→ Step 2: Place pages staggered on top of one another (with the titles showing) working from the last page to the first.
→ Step 3: Fold pages over (making sure it ends up looking like the picture example). Do two staples at the top and you are all set! Don’t staple up at the very top. Instead, move down a little bit (within the top of the frame) and then staple. That way ALL pieces are secure and don’t become loose.
NOTE: I often ask volunteers to assemble these books for the class and they ALWAYS end up doing it their own special way. Find what works for you and/or your volunteers!
