My students have really been into biographies lately! I created this anchor chart and writing activity as a way to guide their informational writing, while learning about an important person in American history.
I asked my students to brainstorm what they already knew about Rosa Parks. They used the recording sheet on page 7 to jot down their knowledge. I recorded their knowledge on the anchor chart. I then read an informational text about Rosa. While I was reading, the students wrote down information on the recording sheet that was new to them. After reading the text, students shared their knowledge and I recorded it on the anchor chart. We then came up with more questions that the children had about Rosa and wrote them down on the anchor chart. The students then used the information from the book and anchor chart to write down all that they knew about her on the All About Rosa Parks. writing page. (I included two sheets for the writing, in case you have students who have a lot to say!. One sheet can be glued on top of the other and then they can both be attached to a piece of construction paper.) While the students were doing their writing, I did more research on the internet about the lingering questions, to see if I could answer any of them!
