Attached is a document I created to help myself survive Halloween in 5th grade (haha!), but this product could easily be used for 2nd grade and up!
Don't you just love using Somebody Wanted But So Then to teach Summary? I sure do! Now that my kiddos are moving out of fiction, and into nonfiction, I wanted to use Halloween as a day to review summaries...and what better way than to make it SPOOKY?
I've included 5 different SWBST graphic organizers to help review summary and allow the kiddos to practice creating their own summaries. On Halloween, I grab as many fall and Halloween themed picture books that I can, and ask the kids to read through their choice of books to fill out the Somebody Wanted But So. It creates for an awesome, engaging activity!
Some of the graphic organizers just have the letters SWBST, some have blanks for the kids to fill in the words Somebody Wanted But So Then, and some have the words already filled out. Some organizers also have questions to help out our lower kids (or useful for the kiddos in the lower grades) independently find the Somebody Wanted But So Then of the books they choose to read.
I also like to choose the graphic organizers with the questions so that we can glue these graphic organizers into our reading journals for future reference/review.
