This freebie puzzle can be used in speech articulation therapy to target production of /r/ consonant blends.
The puzzle consists of nine squares; 4 words are partially depicted on the edges of each of the nine cards. Three additional squares are also provided:
1. Cover Card
2. Instruction Card
3. Targeted word Reference Card
These additional cards can be kept with the puzzle squares for reference... and to help keep things organised!
The goal - aside from speech practice! - is to arrange the cards to form a 3x3 square by matching the adjoining picture halves. (If your students need a hint - the card with the star in the center is the center card of the puzzle!)
Younger students can match the picture halves so that all nine cards form a straight line (vertically or horizontally).
To practice at word level: say the word as each picture is completed and/or when puzzle is completed. Place each word in a short sentence, if practicing at sentence level.
For carryover practice: encourage the student to 'think out loud' about how he/she is solving the puzzle, remembering of course, to use great speech.
If working with a group, provide each student with a puzzle, and race to see who can be first to complete the puzzle.
Getting started is easy....
Print, laminate and then carefully cut along the solid black lines to separate the squares.
