This simple tool will help you design your units of instruction in a systematic way for effective backwards design.
Don’t feel obligated to fill this form out in order: start with what you know and then fill in the gaps from there. If your district pacing guide requires Unit 3 be over a specific text, start with Major Text box. If you want your students to write narratives, begin with Product box and then find texts to use as mentors and think about which standards can be taught through a unit over narratives (PS: that's my favorite way to make sure writing isn't just an afterthought in my traditionally Literature-heavy high school class.)
Print off as many copies as you need, or add text boxes to keep your plans digital.
Once you have the major units mapped out, design your specific lessons using my Plan Book Pages That WORK!
