PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Writing dialogue requires a great deal of practice, but that doesn’t mean it should be boring! Using comic strips is a great way to practice writing dialogue while engaging students and stimulating their creativity.

This FREE product includes two public domain comics. The comics contain blank speech bubbles for students to fill in with original dialogue based on the characters depicted in the scene. After adding dialogue to the speech bubbles, students will rewrite the comic strips in narrative form. This allows them to practice correctly punctuating dialogue, using speech tags, and writing with descriptive vocabulary.

I have used this activity in my classroom for several years, and the students love it. In fact, several ask for extra worksheets to practice.

Includes excerpts of comics from Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend by Winsor McCay.
