This is a warm-up activity that can be used with ANY writing topic. My students really like this!
Attach one of the bigger fish to your shirt (I use a paper clip).
Give each student a “Catch Me If You Can” slip and have them write their hook for their essay on the slip of paper. I have my students write it then face it toward me so I can see it as I “swim” walk around the room. If their writing hook “catches” me by being interesting, eye catching, asking a question etc. I will lay one of the smaller fish on their desk. At the end of the class period IF they have finished all parts of their writing assignment for the day AND they have caught a small fish for having a great hook then they can trade it in for a prize from my prize box. They love this!
