For the activity I put the cards up around the room, sometimes hiding them behind things to challenge the students. They use their recording sheet to go on a hunt looking for all of the words in each sentence. Each word card has a picture, number and word. The students will match the picture with the number on their recording sheet and then write the word in that box.
When I do this in my room my kids have a blast. Some groups have turned it into a race to see who can complete this first.

RF.1.1a- Recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence (e.g., first word, capitalization, ending punctuation).
RF.1.3g Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
