This product was created to complement the Ontario Curriculum Grade 1 Science strand;

FRENCH Needs and Characteristics of Living Things, Les êtres vivants: caractéristiques et besoins*

Topics include;

• L'environnement - Identify environment as the area in which something or someone lives.

• Besoins essentiels - Identify basic needs of living things.

• Vivant ou non vivant - 3 interactive cut & glue pages for lots of practice sorting objects into living or non living things.

• Les êtres vivants - Identify the characteristics of living things

• Life cycle sequencing cards in colour and black & white. Cut apart and laminate for centres. They could also be glued onto another page or inside science notebooks.

→ Le papillon
→ Le renne
→ Le cheval

• J'observe un papillon - Journal to use with any classroom butterfly observation activity. You could also provide pictures or online videos if you don't have real insects to observe.

• Chasse au trésor - Nature walk treasure hunt. Students can find and see the things on the list then decide if they are living or non living. Colour the triangle accordingly. You may wish to have students collect items or simply observe them outside.

• Mon corps - Identify parts of the body and their functions. Boy and girl versions included.

• 5 senses (les 5 sens) - Spinners to use on their own or attach inside interactive notebooks.

• Les 5 sens - Identify the sensory organs and their functions.

• Explore your senses! Quick and easy science activity where you provide experiences for students and they circle the response on the page (ex. play music notes for students to decide if they hear high or low pitched sounds).

• Les besoins des plantes - Identify basic needs of plants. Word bank included to support young learners.

• J'observe une plante - Journal to use with any classroom plant observation activity. You could also provide pictures or online videos if you don't have real plants to observe.

• Identify parts of a plant (apple tree) and their functions with this interactive cut & glue page. 2 versions are included to help differentiate your lesson.

• Graphic Organizers - students will consider the ways animals and plants are important to us. They can write and draw their ideas.

• Méli-Mélo des animaux - Dice game. Add a little fun to centers by rolling the dice to create a unique creature!

• Compare and contrast various living things with a series of seven Venn diagrams. These could also be laminated for centers and reused!

• Mon plan d'action - Graphic Organizer for creating a personal action plan for a healthy environment.

• Graphic Organizers - Consider the effects of the loss of grass and flowers. Draw and/or write ideas then share with the class.

• Graphic Organizers - Consider the importance of a variety of plants and animals in our lives and what we can do to show we appreciate them.
