This set of 20 FRENCH PHONICS AND SOUNDS display posters / flashcards with vocabulary, pronunciation and spelling activities introduces learners to FRENCH phonics, sounds and rhyming words from the very beginning of their learning. The posters create a fabulous FRENCH feel to your classroom, promoting FRENCH as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your learners. They also help learners familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of FRENCH words, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
This set features twenty words in groups of five, focusing on the sounds EAU, EU, IN and ETTE. There are seventeen nouns using the definite article, either masculine or feminine, and including a blend of singular and plural. There are also one number, and two adjectives, one masculine and one feminine. This provides a great opportunity to begin to compare FRENCH to English. It doesn’t matter if some of the words themselves don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the resource provides learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in FRENCH, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, sounds and rhymes, to identify cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in FRENCH. They also help learners work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. The whole-group vocabulary, pronunciation and spelling activities work well both orally and in writing, individually or as a team game for a starter, refresher or plenary activity at any time during a single lesson, a series of lessons, and across the school year.
The resource consists of three non-editable files:
- display posters/flashcards
- pronunciation, vocabulary and spelling activity/quiz for whole-group work
- pronunciation, vocabulary and spelling activity/quiz in pf format for tablets or
similar devices, which is really useful for more independent learning in the
classroom, or if you're homeschooling.
SETS 1 and 2 are also available as a combined pack, priced at $5.00 - you can have a look at it here:
