FRENCH Vocabulary Practice and Revision Activities – 99 BEGINNING WORDS & PHRASES, ENSEMBLE UN, help students develop and embed their beginning FRENCH vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, with a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and basic writing and spelling. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. Students can quiz/test themselves and each other on a regular basis - they're a very popular alternative to more traditional vocabulary 'drilling tasks', and really do help to create a lively language learning environment.
This set features 99 BEGINNING WORDS AND PHRASES that students are likely to meet in the introductory stages of their FRENCH learning:
- Les salutations (1)
- Les jours de la semaine
- Les mois de l'année
- Les quatre saisons de l'année
- Les nombres 0-20
- Ma famille
- Mots fréquents (1)
- Les phrases pour la salle de classe (1)
- Questions et réponses (1)
I've described the resource as suitable for Grades 4-10, but it does depend on the age at which your students begin FRENCH - the games/activities work well with any appropriate learning group.
The resource comprises seven individual non-editable pdf files:
FRENCH and English matching cards, with all the words and phrases to use in a variety of games and including the Quiz Card template; I've suggested a range of games/activities that have worked well for me on Pages 2-7;
A bilingual reference list, FRENCH to English, which students find helpful as a learning support resource
CHILLOUT CHALLENGE (1) - a FRENCH to ENGLISH Recall and Write activity - with students writing from memory all the words and phrases in ENGLISH from a FRENCH prompt;
CHILLOUT CHALLENGE (2) - an ENGLISH to FRENCH Recall and Write activity, which actually increases the CHILLOUT CHALLENGE a little, giving students opportunity to begin to get used to writing in FRENCH - award extra points for spot-on spelling!
The CHAMPION CHALLENGE, with all the words in both FRENCH and ENGLISH in random order - 'switching' from on language to another really is a great challenge, and certainly puts recall and spelling to the test! There's a NOTES AND NEXT STEPS template in this file - encourage students to reflect on where they are now in their learning, and what they might reasonably do to improve and progress in their learning;
A Practice/Quiz Quiz whole-group activity, useful as a warm-up, starter or plenary across the entire school year, keeping the vocabulary fresh. A great revision activity before tests/exams too.
A pdf version of this activity, so that students can work independently on a tablet or similar device, and which is really useful if you're homeschooling
MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON DIVERTISSEMENT !
