Shown here is the student hand-out version of the question words. The question words are printed on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets. The top half has the visual with the written word and the bottom half has only the visual. They should be cut apart. The ones with the words should be on display in the classroom from the first day since questions are a necessary part of learning to communicate. They will come up on their own without having to be "planned" into the lessons. Always introduce a question word by giving the students a choice that indicates what the question means. "Where is the book? On the table or on the floor?" The information needed is a location. Later when you want to study the questions in an "official" manner, the students will already know most of them by having used them in communicative situations. Communication is the vehicle for learning, not something to practice later. Learning any vocabulary or grammar by rote memorization is counter-productive.
