PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This unit invites students to explore the world of the Ancient Greeks in a unique way by introducing strategies for creating individualized mythic lands. Accompanied by readings of D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths, the children will be guided to consider the events surrounding the lives of their preferred characters and then to create their own lands, recording their ideas in the form of mythic maps. The maps will be used to stimulate imagination and motivate creative storytelling. The representations will be used to introduce geometric concepts such as size and scale; parts of a whole; points, lines and positions in space. These will be interwoven with geographical ideas of borders and boundaries, physical features of landforms, and natural phenomena of the Earth.
