This programme was designed in response to a class of Year 1 students with a very low level of oral language, who were struggling to make any progress in the area of literacy.
It may appear that the methods used in this programme go against what current research proves to be effective ways of teaching reading – and it may not be the right programme for all children. However, within the context of a balanced reading programme, the programme has made a difference for 90% of the children in my class. They are able to read their known words in isolation as well as in the context of a book, and are starting to transfer their growing knowledge into their writing.
The resource is made up of lists, games, activity books, wordfinds and recording sheets.
