This document includes fill-in-the-blank review and revision practice for the Florida Standards Assessment Writing Test.
It is meant to be used in conjunction with the HIT, BEET, RUN mnemonic system.
HIT is an acronym for introductions. It stands for:
H- Hook (draw the reader in)
I - Information (supply any background a reader would need to understand the topic and prompt)
T- Thesis (preview of the main points)
BEET guides the students through body paragraph writing:
B - baby thesis (one point of a larger thesis)
E - evidence (cited evidence from the text)
E- elaboration (an explanation that includes why the evidence is important to prove or support the baby thesis)
T- transition (smooth movement from one paragraph to the next)
RUN is for conclusions:
R- restate the thesis
U- use a strategy
N - now, wrap it up
