Are your students having difficulty grouping evidence for their informational topics?
Included in this product are 4 informational main idea sorts. The topics included in these sorts are the water cycle, animal classification, the four seasons and American landmarks.
Some ways you can use this product:
Taking out the topic, and main ideas, have your students categorize the details into logical groups, and then determine what the topic is.
Have students use the sorts to create and practice writing planning pages. The topic is going to be your controlling statement / thesis / claim, followed by your main ideas and supporting details.
Once your students have identified the controlling topic, the main ideas, and which details go with which, your students can then create a tree map with the information.
