In this activity, students identify the functions included on graphs. Each graph shows eight points. Four of the points are collinear and the other four represent a non-linear function (quadratic or exponential). The students are asked to draw each function and find the equations.
This makes a great performance assessment as it requires students to :
Identify points on a coordinate grid and name them.
Determine the equation of the linear function from the graph or from the coordinate pairs.
Recognize when non-linear points form a parabola or an exponential curve and estimate the graph of the curve.
Find the equation of the curve given some of the points.
Distinguish between the features of linear, quadratic, and exponential graphs and their equations.
Five graphs (two functions on each) are included. A worksheet for the separate graphs is included (to be copied for each graph). Or you can use a chart that allows spaces for all the graphs to be identified.
