This is a Common Core State Standards based activity. This activity may be done in collaborative groups or individually.
Facilitate higher order thinking skills as your students plan and write a fable. The students will choose a moral of the fable. Then, they will support the moral of the fable by
--describing the conflict and setting,
--developing animal characters,
--organizing the sequence of the plot,
--and writing dialogue.
The students are encouraged to use their imaginations, be creative, and have fun. The students may also create childrens books using the fables. This activity is also beneficial for EFL/ESL/ELD students due to its scaffolding.
Common Core State Standards:
Writing 3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details,
and well-structured event sequences.
Writing 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task,
purpose, and audience.
Writing 5: Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.
