From Electric English...
This is an introductory writing exercise that will open your student's eyes to the possibilities of their own work. The individual assignments I have posted which are contained within this packet give detailed explanations for what the activities are, and how they will benefit you and your students.
This is a small part of a bigger unit, but, of course, if you have something already created that you would like to pair it with, the activities will stand on their own. And, yes, they are certainly applicable to Common Core Standards; in fact, if you take the time to complete all 14 exercises of the process, you will cover every Common Core Standard for writing that there is. For me, personally though, whether Common Core or not, these are just good teaching practices that will greatly benefit your students, and you will be amazed at how their writing improves over the course of the year. That being said, this small unit on The Fable will stand on its own, if you already have something with which you would like to pair it.
If you are interested in what the entire unit might be like, you should definitely check out all the lessons and activities that I have posted. These assignments and activities are in no way restricted to a specific grade level or class. Use them for what is best for you:)
This packet contains about one week of work, give or take a day. I have, intentionally, not included lesson plans with these packets because I feel, at times, they can be stifling.... The idea here is; you can pick and choose whatever material you want; in whatever order you want (depending on the time you have); instead of, constantly feeling like you must adhere to a certain schedule. Plus, this way, you have many resources at your disposal and can mix and match from year to year depending on your mood. This packet contains the following:
- Powerpoint on The Fable
- Activity: Native American Myths and Fables
- Writing Assignment - The Fable
- Homework: Research Choice for Writing Assignmnent
- Peer-Editing: The Fable
- Rubric: The Fable
Take this material and run with it!! If you have any questions or observations at all, please feel free to contact me :)
