This all-in-one resource is designed to attend to 3rd and 4th grade core literature standards while studying fable genre. Included in this flipbook is the fable itself (a grade-level text and a struggling readers' version), and all the essential questions/graphic organizers (specific to this particular fable) necessary for guiding students in analyzing characters and story plot, as well as determining the moral of the fable. In addition, a readers' theater script and activities have been added to support fluency practice. Teacher notes, detailed lesson plans, and answer keys are also included to guide your instruction and optimize a close read of the fable. It's perfect for any reading instructional setting, whether it be whole group, partner reading, centers, or guided reading groups.
Note: "I Can" statements are included in the lesson plans.

✔ describe characters' traits, feelings, actions, or motives, and how they influence the events or outcome of the fable
✔ determine which traits are most important to the moral of the fable
✔ retell the fable using the most important details in the fable
✔ determine the point of view of the characters and distinguish my own point of view from that of the characters'
✔ determine the moral of the fable and how it applies the reader
✔ infer how the outcome of the story might have been different had the character made better choices
✔ find and use evidence from the text to support thinking
✔ determine the meaning of words using context clues
✔ practice fluency and expression through readers' theater activities
