I am offering a set of fables for the price of one! In the first fable, THE FOX AND THE CROW, a fox plays upon a crow's vanity to steal a piece of cheese from her. The lesson is that it is foolish to listen to flattery. In the second Fable, THE CROW AND THE PITCHER, a thirsty crow comes upon a pitcher with water at the bottom beyond its reach. The crow drops in pebbles until the water rises to the top allowing it to drink. It demonstrates that there is a way to do nearly anything. The fun stories along with cute drawings are sure to spark discussion. More importantly there is a built-in READING STRATEGY that has students look back up to the story and use its context to answer several comprehension questions. Using the strategy increases student retention. A final question ask them to pick the lesson of the fable, thus making an inference. Answer key for both is included.
