Here are 2 fables that lend themselves to many learning opportunities and both for just a dollar. Each fable has several fill-in the blank questions, so students have to look back up to the stories and see where the answer is explicitly stated. The last question of each fable has them decide what the lesson or moral of the story is, so they make inferences. Both fables have the red hen character. In the first, she deals with her chicks who demand fancy meals. In the other, she gets in trouble by trying to swim like a duck. In the end, she says, “From now on, I’ll be what I am.”
This minilesson enhances the Common Core Standards of Key Ideas and Details of Reading Literature. Both fables have cute drawings certain to spark interest and discussion. Answer keys are included.
