This project can be used in a variety of ways. It can be completed in small groups, in pairs, or individually. It was designed to be done by students who are just beginning to learn about the fifties, or previewing the material. For lower-level students, it could also be used as a unit assessment.
With this assignment, students will find create a collage of found primary source documents. They will have fun learning about the post war era, especially the pop culture of the 1950s.
The common core ELA History/Social Studies Standards that this project addresses are:
Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, as well as in words) in order to address a question or solve a problem.
Integrate information from diverse sources, both primary and secondary, into a coherent understanding of an idea or event, noting discrepancies among sources.
