Here's a new way for students display creativity and mastery of content vocabulary!
The Facebook Vocabulary Profile asks you to treat each vocabulary word as if it were an individual that friended you on Facebook.
Simply past a picture into the profile box that helps the students associate the word's meaning with a real life situation/action. Then students write the definition, decide what interests or activities the word would be interested in and write one sentence about the word.
For example, say the word is challenge.
Definition: something requiring effort
Activities and Interest: competitive eating tournaments, competitive sports, level 4 sudoku puzzles, the New York Times crossword
About Me: I like to do things that are not easy, because they are very rewarding.
Then students identify the part of speech, a Facebook Friend, which is a synonym, and a Facebook Frenemy (Friend+Enemy, someone we want to delete but can't), which is an antonym. Lastly, students complete the profile with the vocabulary word's "work experience" by using it properly in a sentence.
There's also a Criteria for Success included, which is a student friendly checklist to ensure that each profile is completed well.
