Book clubs provide an excellent opportunity for students to discuss independent reading selections. Unlike literature circles, books clubs allow students to participate in natural conversations about their reading without the use of specified roles. This small packet contains a few materials that will allow you to successfully implement book clubs in your classroom.
Included are the following:
◊ Book Club Norms - a poster that includes a list of expectations for participants in book clubs
◊ Book Club Bookmarks – a bookmark that students can use to take notes while reading independently
◊ Book Club Discussion Cards – 24 discussion cards to keep the conversation moving during the book club meetings or to use as writing prompts for reading response journals
◊ Book Club Menu Options – a menu of 16 reflection activities from which students can choose to complete after completing a book
◊ Book Club Calendar – a blank calendar for student to fill out when planning book club meetings
