Mathtivity - Flip Flap Fact Houses
Combine a lesson on the connection between subtraction and addition (inverse operations) with craft and creativity!
This packet will provide you with template pieces to make a cute fact family house.
Students color the templates pieces and then explore how the three numbers relate to one another by covering one at a time with a flap.
Students write the total on the roof. As they cover one number, they think and work out what number will go with the other two to complete an addition or subtraction fact.
e.g. 6+4 = 10, 4+6 = 10, 10-6 = 4, 10-4 = 6
These pieces can be printed on color paper, or print them on white paper and ask your students to shade them.
Students record their 4 number sentences from their house on their recording worksheet. Students can then trade houses and record more facts for other numbers on their recording sheet.
