Help your students understand how 3 numbers work together to create 2 addition and 2 subtraction facts with my Fact Families SmartBoard lesson! The file includes teacher’s notes (describing how to use the pages), teaching pages, interactive pages and pdf printables (found in the attachment tab).
After introducing fact families (with interactive pages) the students will use a work mat and manipulate numbers and symbols while the teacher (or a student) shows how to create a fact on the smartboard. (Work mat and strips containing fact family numbers and math symbols are included on a printable pdf stored in the attachment tab - just click the “paper clip” to show what is included in the attachments). Additional strips containing various fact family numbers are included in the pdf for students to use in a partner activity.
Three additional PDF files are included in the attachment tab. The first worksheet is a printable that asks students to identify the 3 fact family numbers and write the sum or difference for the 4 facts. The second worksheet is more challenging. Students look at 3 numbers in a family and write the 4 facts. Finally, a generic version of the worksheet is provided so you can customize it to suit your needs.
The materials in the lesson usually require 2 lesson periods. The first part focuses on introducing and modeling. The second part pairs up the students for a partner activity (printable materials included in the pdf).
Note: Page count includes .notebook file pages AND printable pages (pdf).
If you do not have Notebook software or a SmartBoard, the printable (pdf) materials are also available here
