This is an interactive lesson using Smart Notebook to teach the relationship between multiplication and division through fact families. The first 10 screens are fact family houses with given numbers to sort to their respective places in the house. This is scaffolded for students because the operations and equal signs are already in their proper places. The following pages require students to sort the numbers and the operations. The final page challenges students to come up with their own numbers that are related through multiplication and division.
I have used this during whole group instruction, allowing students to come to the board and sort the numbers and operations. I have also used it as a center to review fact families or to remediate a particular group of students on fact families.
