Do you remember Zoobooks? I always loved them as a child, and probably why I went into a science career. I took the basic idea of Zoobooks and made a semester long project for my students in Zoology class. As we study each phyla/taxa, the students make a Zoobook, "Fact File", that covers the information that I want the students to review, and pay close attention to. In the file are the instructions I give to my students for the format of the "Fact Files" then following it is the vocabulary that I want my zoology students to know for each taxa.
I have received good feedback from the students about how this helps condense the information, and it gives them a creative outlet to put the information in a way that is meaningful to them.
In addition, this is a great tool for students on IEP's and 504-plans for learners who need a more condensed/concise form of the information given.
