As an added bonus, I created 5 days of LESSON PLANS that outline how and when I use each of the included resources! You don't have to follow the lesson plan format I provide, of course, but it might be helpful in providing a bit of direction for you.
The PowerPoint begins by defining facts and opinions, and then focuses on how to differentiate between the two types of statements. The next part zooms in on opinions and students practice identifying the signal words in opinion statements. It contains nine multiple choice questions to aid in test prep. The final three slides present students with a topic, and instructs them to write a fact and an opinion related to the topic independently.
The basketball craftivity includes statements written on 18 basketballs, and students must identify whether each statement is a fact or an opinion. It also includes detailed directions complete with photos instructing students how to assemble the craftivity. The football craftivity is the same, but it contains 16 footballs.
There are 32 task cards in the task card set. All are multiple choice questions, requiring students to identify either the fact or the opinion within the answer choices. This set of task cards is unique in that it includes two options for a recording sheet. There is a traditional recording sheet and a game-like recording sheet where students have to determine which character collects the most answers.
The partner play set contains 5 scripts about American presidents. Students read the scripts with a partner, and then answer the fact and opinion questions after reading each script. The partner plays are designed to help build fluency along with learning to identify facts and opinions within reading passages.
Finally, two fact and opinion games are included. The OUCH! game is perfect for a small group, while the "I Have... Who Has...?" game can be played with a small group or the entire classroom of students.
