Students need to understand the differences between facts and opinions. In this interactive Smartboard lesson, students first learn the differences through slides that define each. Then other slides are used as interactive guided practice where students first begin to identify fact and opinion statements. After practicing fact and opinion statements, reading passages are given where students must find facts and opinions within the passage. They can underline the fact and opinion statements in two different colors, showing them how authors blend the two and using facts to support opinion statements (especially when completing persuasive writing).
