Have you been teaching fact and opinion? Is your class celebrating Valentine's Day?

This Valentine's Day Fact and Opinion resource is a great way to combine the two!

Hang the fact and opinion mini posters in your room before your lesson and keep them up as a reference all year.

You can use the sort as a whole class activity in small groups OR even for students to work on independently. The facts and opinions provided in the sort all relate to Valentine's Day! After teaching or using the sort I love to do a quick check to make sure my students know the difference and are able to provide an example of each.

My students love to share their opinions and we complete the prompt a few days before Valentine's Day and they "think" they need to convince me with their writing to have a party in our room.

Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
