After reading How to Survive as a Shark by Kristen Foote, discuss about perspectives and how learning facts can change perspectives.
How to Survive as a Shark by Kristen Foote is an amusing and informative picture book about sharks. It is told from the perspective of a grown great white shark teaching newly born shark pups. Through the fictionalized lessons, the pups learn about great white shark life cycles, how they move, what they eat, and more.
The activity is provided twice.
First, the activity is provided with black and white sentence strips, a page labeled “facts” and “opinions”, and fact/opinions envelopes. The students can cut the sentence strips, glue the envelop edges (only the edges) to their pages, and then sort the sentences into the correct envelopes. See the image for an idea on the final products. Of course, students can also color as desired.
The activity is then provided with color cards and sorting pages to make this activity into a center or group activity.
