Product Description
Description: Factor 5 is a quick, fun way to practice pulling the greatest common factor (GCF) from a sum of two numbers. The goal is to leave the answer as the product of the GCF and a sum of two numbers and variables. For example: 24x + 18y = 6(4x + 3y)
This activity aligns with CCCS 6.EE.A.3.and CCCS 7.EE.A.1

Ways to use: Quick quiz, entrance or exit ticket, Row Races, Independent or group practice.

Quick quiz or entrance/exit tickets: You can use the cards to check for student understanding. Since there are 6 different versions, you have the opportunity to give 6 different quizzes or tickets for your formative assessments.

Row Races or group practice: I like to have Row Races in my class to make things fun and to increase the speed with which students complete the practice problems.

Each row or group of students receives one of the cards. Students race to complete the problems – one student/one problem/one at a time. When the last student completes his or her problem, he or she races to me to check all the answers. If there is an error, I send him or her back for the group to work as a whole to solve it. I do not tell them the error so they need to figure out which one is wrong. The winner is the first group with a 100% card. You have 6 versions so you can have 6 different races!

Worksheet Forms included: I am also including 2 worksheet versions and of the product and answer keys if you would like the students to have additional practice.
