Description

Lost in the ocean! Your students have gotten lost in the ocean and they are running out of oxygen! In this READY TO GO digital escape room, students factor polynomials (trinomials) to make it home before their oxygen tanks are out of air.

In this digital activity, students will use a Google Site to complete a digital escape room. Students will complete a total of 11 multiple choice questions about factoring trinomials while completing the escape room. Students will also complete 2 card sorts to practice factoring polynomials.

To be successful, students should know how to factor trinomials where a = 1, where a ≠ 1, perfect square trinomials, and difference of squares. Some of the problems require factoring out a GCF. Not all of the problems are straightforward, and some require students to think about what they have learned. This is intended for an Algebra 1 level classroom.

This escape room includes:

  • “Start Here” Narrative
  • Google Form with 4 Questions
  • Puzzle (Please make sure you have access to jigsawplanet.com)
  • Google Slides Card Sort (place the factors next to the trinomial)
  • Google Form with 4 Questions
  • Google Slides Card Sort (place the factors next to the trinomial)
  • Google Form with 3 Questions
  • Five Location Locks

This Digital Escape is truly NO-PREP! There is nothing to make, print, cut, laminate, or buy. There are no clues to hide or locks to set. Everything is ready for your students on the Google Site!

Your students will solve puzzles, cyphers and clues to open the lockbox!

All you have to do is share the link with your students or assign the link in GOOGLE Classroom.

You can have your students complete this on Chromebooks, on an IPad, or in a computer lab.

PLEASE READ BELOW

PLEASE TEST GOOGLE SITES and THESE WEBSITES ON YOUR SCHOOL COMPUTERS FIRST. TRY THIS TEST SITE.

1. MAKE SURE YOUR DISTRICT DOES NOT BLOCK YOU FROM USING JIGSAWPLANET.COM, EDPUZZLE, PROPROFS or YOUTUBE. THERE MAY BE A LINK TO THESE SITES IN THE ESCAPE ROOM.

2. Also, please make sure your district DOES NOT BLOCK OUTSIDE GOOGLE SITES. I would check with your IT department.

3. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE if this site is not working in your school. This is probably due to firewalls and sites your school district is blocking. I cannot control these issues.

Use the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. For example, see 𝘹⁴ – 𝘺⁴ as (𝘹²)² – (𝘺²)², thus recognizing it as a difference of squares that can be factored as (𝘹² – 𝘺²)(𝘹² + 𝘺²).
Factor a quadratic expression to reveal the zeros of the function it defines.
