What educators are saying

It is a simple way to teach my tutoring students how to factor trinomials that are not always obvious.
This was a great addition to my interactive notebook-many of my students who were struggling with factoring used this flowchart every day and are now having success!

Description

Help your students visualize the process for factoring ANY quadratic trinomial. The flowcharts even work to factor special cases such as difference of squares! Students are able to easily lead themselves or others through a problem, when using these graphic organizers. These flowcharts have been built to handle any problem, from the easiest of factoring problems to the nastiest. Factoring is a hugely important skill for students' success, which is why I love using this flowchart when I teach the concept to make sure that every single student knows exactly what to do, every single time.

NOTE: This product includes two different methods of factoring!

Method #1 uses the "Slide, Divide, Bottoms Up" method for factoring when a > 1 and we can't get rid of a by using a GCF. If you are unfamiliar with this method, first, know that it's awesome, and second, read more about it here.

Method #2 uses the "Factor by Grouping" method of factoring quadratic trinomials, which is a fantastically intuitive option for students who have honed in their GCF skills. This is my personal favorite of the two methods! It's super flexible and has a built-in check halfway through. Read more about it here.

Three versions are included: full-sheet and half-sheet sizes, as well as (my favorite!) a booklet version. The half-sheet and booklet versions are both designed to fit perfectly into any interactive notebook!

Three Versions Included:

*Full-sheet size, 1 per full page of paper.

*Half-Sheet Size (2 per page--cut in half and glue into interactive notebooks!)

*Booklet - The booklet fits 3 flowcharts, and is my favorite version to use in interactive notebooks!

Classroom-Use TIP: I have really loved laminating a class set of the full sheet size so students can work on the flowchart template with a dry erase marker.

Printing TIP: Always have your printer set to "FIT" or "SHRINK OVERSIZED PAGES!" Printers vary with the margins that they use, so this will ensure that all TPT products look their best!

Note to buyers: Due to the nature of the topic, this flowchart shares common elements with the Solving Quadratics by Factoring Flowchart.

Product Note: Flowcharts have been left blank for increased flexibility. Pictures in the preview file show how you can utilize the flowchart with ANY problem.
