Students review different types of factoring in this activity that doubles as classroom decor. Polynomials on the pennants have the following characteristics:
GCF with A >1
No GCF with A>1
A is the GCF
Cubic polynomial (factor by grouping)
Difference of squares
Difference of Squares with GCF
Difference of Squares with no GCF (ie: 9x^2 - 25)
Included are 2 versions: a year-round pennant version and a holiday ornament version. Each version includes 30 pennants, 2 bonus pennants, 2 blank pennants, an optional student answer sheet and an answer key. Once a pennant is complete, it can be hung along a string in your classroom to show the world that, "Hey, we know how to factor!"
Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one. You may also choose to have your students color their pennants to add to your classroom decor.
