PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Every year, when it comes time for my Geometry students to factor a basic polynomial, I have to reteach the concept. Instead of just assuming they know it, I've created a plan to help them review factoring, yet I combine it with other skills they've learned in Geometry so that it's integrated together. Students who already knew how to factor extend that knowledge to working with Geometric shapes, and students who are seemingly learning it for the first time have a good place to start with this worksheet.

Instead of a lecture, I start off class -- the opener -- with a quick 10 minute "mini-lesson" showing them how to factor basic polynomials by factoring out the GCF. Students are generally not writing notes at this point: they are just watching and listening, without the infrastructure of notes getting in their way.

After the mini-lecture, I give one copy of this worksheet per student and they delve into the problems.

I use this activity within cooperative groups, and I circulate to make sure they are getting the purpose of the questions.

The file includes spiral review problems.

This worksheet is intended to be written on directly.

Please download the pdf preview file first, so you can see exactly what's included; the product file is a word document, which you may personalize for your students.
