Factoring Trinomials TEKS Aligned: A10E
This is a fun activity for the student to practice factoring trinomials where a = 1. The student is given 3 different question paths and 24 rectangles to cut out. The top of the rectangle has the answer to the factoring question and the bottom of the rectangle contains the next trinomial to factor. This way, students can't "cheat" and just work the problem backwards (by multiplying instead of factoring)!
Some questions are very similar such as x^2 - 7x - 12 and x^2 - 7x + 12 to make the activity more difficult. The first path contains all positive signs to start off a little easier and to eliminate some answer choices for the next two paths which contain at least 1 minus sign in all of the questions. There are 6 extra rectangles that are not used at all. No special cases are included such as perfect square trinomials or a difference of two squares. Key included. Have fun!
