Factoring Trinomials where a > 1 TEKS Aligned: A10E
This is a double-sided notes page that helps the students factor a trinomial where a > 1 intuitively. There are no tricks here or methods other than observing the values of a and c in the trinomial. The notes begin by asking the student what it means to factor. Then the notes explain how just referring to b and c in the trinomial is not enough when a does not equal 1. Finally, steps are given to make the educated guess and check process easier.
Students follow along with the first example and then use the steps to try one more example. Then 2 more examples are provided for guided practice. This notes page is intended to be used the day after my
Factoring Trinomials (a > 1) Discovery Activity where students are introduced to the idea of making educated guesses when factoring these kinds of trinomials. 2 pages. Key included.
