My method for factoring trinomials when a>1 is called "taking out the trash). There is a video in my store (it is free) that explains this method. When factoring, the first term of your factored binomial is the linear version of the quadratic .... if your trinomail stars with 2x^2 .... then each binomial would start with 2x. When you take the trash from each binomial, it is the GCF each term in the binomial shares ... (2x-8) ... trash is 2. (12x-8) ... trash is 4 (3x+2) ... no trash.

this method works for ESL, inclusion and CR (I have taught this method to all 3 groups). It also works for accelerated and upper level math course - such as pre-calc and Alg. II (I have taught this method to these courses as well).

These are great notes (not to toot my own horn). I love factoring, and I love this method. My students typically rock this stuff using this method.
