This graphic organizer is in tabular form with headings on each column that describes the steps that the students complete to factor the greatest common factor from an algebraic expression.
The method helps to ensure that the GREATEST common factor is found and factored out by factoring the original numbers down to the prime factors.
The graphic organizer has a built-in check, where the students use the distributive factor to check their answer. This method is good for students who are just learning about factoring out the GCF.
This product includes some easy, medium, and more difficult expressions to factor. When I used this with my students, I cut apart the expressions and put ten expressions in each envelope. The students paired up and pulled an expression from their envelope and factored it using the graphic organizer. After the students practice with the organizer, they should work at the procedure without the organizer.
