This is a great review lesson for multiples, factors, and prime/composite numbers, and should take your students 35-45 minutes, depending on their ability. During this activity students will “visit” four Hawaiian islands: Hawai'i, Maui, Oahu, and Kaua'i. On each island students will complete questions about multiples, factors, and prime/composite numbers. Students may complete the activity on their own or in a small group.
0n each island students will complete a series of math problems and a physical task. Once they complete the math problems and task students will check-in with the teacher to check for accuracy. If they are correct, they may move onto the next island. After all four islands are complete, students complete The Amazing Math Race by taking two (very careful) laps around the class room. This activity is set up to review the concepts, but to also get the kids moving.
Included in the download is both color and B&W printing options and an answer key.
This lesson is best for 4th grade, but can be used as an extension activity for 3rd grade and a review for 5th grade.
