What educators are saying

This looks great. I didn't end up using it with my students this year, but will try to incorporate it next year.
I love that this resource was available to give my students a more well-rounded unit about Native Americans.

For too long, students have had a skewed or misunderstood understanding of Native American culture. With this resource, your student will be much more knowledgeable about an entire culture!

• Four leveled reading passages on often misunderstood topics in Native American culture: Native Americans today, Headdresses and Eagle Feathers, Native American homes, and Buffalo (among other issues).

• Defines and provides examples of facts, myths, and stereotypes.

• Each passage comes with discussion questions and open response questions to promote further discussion.

• Pre-assessment and Assessment activities.

• Role playing activity: Students are given a statement by a fictional student who has a misunderstanding of Native American culture. Students must create a response to correct that students understanding.

• Essay question prompt: Students will get the chance to demonstrate how their understanding and perception of Native Americans has changed throughout the unit.

• Answer sheet included.

• Created by NATIVE American Teacher born and raised on reservation.

By the end of this unit, students will understand:

• Not all Native Americans lived in tipis.

• The importance of the tipi and its many benefits for Plains peoples.

• Cultural differences amongst tribes nationwide.

• The significance of the headdress and eagle feather and why they should be respected.

• How Native Americans dress, live, and keep their culture alive today.

• And many other facts about Native peoples!
