Updated 1/21/16! I added words that tell you it is opinion, and a worksheet with 30 sentences that students have to identify as either a factual claim, commonplace assertion, or opinion.
You get an 8 slide PowerPoint giving definitions and examples for factual claims, commonplace assertions, and opinions. In the included Word document is Internet links for a Prezi, videos, expository and persuasive texts, Quizlet, a list of 20 commonplace assertions, and question stems for creating your own questions.
There are two short selections with 2 questions about factual claims and commonplace assertions. You can use as an activity or pop quiz. There are only 2 answer choices, so you can add more answer choices if needed. Answer key is included.
